About Quiz Bru

Why we built this

Quiz nights are one of the best ways a group of people can spend time together — competitive enough to be exciting, accessible enough that anyone can join in, and personal enough to reflect the people in the room. The problem was always the logistics: writing questions, keeping score manually, coordinating who's the quizmaster.

Quiz Bru removes all of that. A host creates a quiz in a few minutes, shares a code, and players join on their own phones — no download, no account, no barrier to getting started. The platform handles scoring, the leaderboard, and the pacing automatically. The host focuses on the room; the room focuses on the questions.

We built it for friend groups, corporate team-builds, school events, and fundraisers — anyone who wants a live, competitive, social quiz experience without the friction of setting one up from scratch.

Who we are

Quiz Bru is operated by ShellRick Tech Pty (Ltd), a software company based in South Africa. We build and maintain the platform, handle all data under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), and are committed to keeping the core product free and accessible.

Quiz Bru was founded by Freddy & Shelley Niekerk, a husband-and-wife team based in South Africa. Freddy handles the engineering; Shelley keeps everything else honest.

We're a small team. If you have feedback, a bug to report, or just want to say hello, we actually read the emails that come to legal@quizbru.co.za.

Our principles

• ✓Free means free — no watermarks, no mid-session upgrade prompts, no paywalled features in the core quiz engine.
• ✓Players never need an account. A nickname and a join code is all it takes.
• ✓Your data is yours. You can export or delete everything from your account settings at any time.
• ✓We build in the open — the coming-soon roadmap is public and we take feature requests seriously.
